Square and Circle Bound Sketchbooks

Discovering Bookbinding

Description: Learn several different ways to create your own blank book to use for drawing, writing, painting, collage, or more! Learn about the tools, materials, and techniques of this craft while making your own books using accordion, meander, and signature binding methods.

Art for All: Exploring Drawing and Painting
Worcester Art Museum
access-focused class for teens
& young adults

Schedule: Wed, 3 pm–5 pm,9/17-11/19
 

Description: The Art for All class series is designed for neurodiverse teens and young adults with Autism, developmental or traumatic brain injury, and others who may want an additional family member, friend, or caretaker to attend alongside them. All WAM’s classes are open to all students; this one is specifically designed to provide a unique atmosphere and approach to make the learning experience comfortable and fun!
Each class we will explore artwork in the galleries for inspiration, then return to the studio for hands-on art making. We will focus on learning one or more new drawing or painting techniques each week while you create art featuring your favorite things!

Art 101: Introduction to Art
Worcester Art Museum

Schedule: Thu, 2 pm–5 pm, 9/18–11/20
 

Description: What exactly is art? Come find out in this class designed for all. Learn different ways to view and talk about art, and explore various media such as graphite, charcoal, watercolor and acrylic paint, clay sculpture, block printing, and felting. Materials included.

Watercolor and Colored Pencil
Worcester Art Museum

Schedule: Thu, 6–8 pm, 9/18–11/20
 

Description: Watercolor is an incredible painting medium that can be used boldly, subtly, and anywhere in between. Adding colored pencils brings an additional level of interest and detail to your work. Demonstrations and guidance from the instructor will cover various watercolor and colored pencil techniques that will have you enjoying the mediums more each week!

Workshop: Pigment to Paint

Schedule: Sat, 12:30–4 pm, 9/27
 

Description: Get back to the roots of painting (sometimes literally, using beets and carrots)! Learn to source pigments from natural and local materials and create hand-made watercolor paints—no special lab required! Materials provided.

Dancing Dragons Workshop

Schedule: Thu, 7/31, 1-2 pm
 

Description: In connection with the special exhibition Here be Dragons, create your own poseable mythical beast! Draw your fur, scale or skin textures, add pizzazz with sequins and beads, then assemble your dragon or creature!

Make three new books, then finish up the class doing some drawing from observation in the galleries!

Description: Art can do more than hang on a wall – it can be used to design or decorate everyday items! Print your own fabric that we turn into a tote bag, weave baskets from recycled plastic, design your own 2026 calendar, and more!

Art Together: Medieval Times Around the World

Description: What did a knight do? What were the Middle Ages like in different places around the world? Did all countries have royalty? Find out in this fun class as we travel back in time and around the world! Draw portraits, design castles, paint maps, print heraldry, and more!
